Beading

Beading is an art form that has been around for thousands of years and can be found throughout nearly every civilization in human history. Over the course of history, beads have been made from a wide variety of materials, ranging from animal bone and teeth to glass and clay. Ancient people often believed that these beads were endowed with special powers, but many civilizations have used them expressly for the purpose of personal adornment.

Today, beading is a popular hobby for millions of people around the world, and as a result there are dozens of sources from which beads can be purchased, both locally and online. These retailers are usually generalists that carry an extensive selection of beads, from glass to bone and everything in between. Of course, many people still prefer to make their own beads rather than purchase them from a store.

If you are new to the world of beading, taking some classes can be of tremendous benefit, especially if you plan on making your own beads. The process of bead making can be somewhat complex, depending on the material being used, and as such taking classes can greatly reduce the learning curve. There are also numerous publications that one can subscribe too that cater to the hobbyist.
