Jewelry Supplies

The term "jewelry supplies" can encompass a great many items. It can include a wide variety of things, ranging from precious stones to a simple pair of pliers; and while many of the individual pieces may be relatively inexpensive, it can get quite pricey to buy everything one needs to be a full-service jewelry maker. Fortunately, one can at least get started with just a few basic items.

The first items on any list of jewelry supplies for a novice jeweler should be a quality set of tools. The type of tools needed will vary according to the type of jewelry you want to make, but basics such as pliers, metal snips, files, and a burnisher should be in every jeweler's toolbox. However, the best way to get all of the necessary tools to get started is by buying them as a "kit", and these kits are commonly sold through most suppliers.

Once you have the necessary tools, the next step is to add materials to the list of jewelry supplies. Stocks of varying metals (including brass, copper, gold, and silver), different types of beads, and a variety of stones are all common to a jewelers work area. Additional materials can be added as your skills and design aesthetics evolve over time.
